Wanna know a good comedy?

Tue May 5, 2009, 10:56 PM
I know I promise to do this and that and I have a contest that I should have gotten responses to forever ago. I'm super sorry about that, and I promise here in the next few weeks I WILL be doing some things that were due. I first want to apologize for that. Maybe I'm not the most reliable, but God real life HAPPENS, y'know? College eats my soul away, so needless to say I am more than thankful for a little breathing room. Like I said, I promise you'll see some more art from me and some different stuff.

That aside, I just had HAD to post about this next topic. Lately (for some down time) I'd been doing some serious comics cramming. I've always been a fan of the American comic tv shows (especially X-Men and Spiderman). I don't know what brought the topic up exactly next to me babbling about the new X-men show on one of the Nick channels. I was looking for it and figured to snag some comics. Mind you, Ultimate isn't "original" but needless to say it was a nice way to start a series without going back and worrying about the YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS of comics to muddle through. Besides (blasphemous as this may be) I've never really been fond of that old comic book style. So yes, I've been reading all sorts of newer (and some older) X-Men universes.

Since I've had a rebuilt interest in all that is X-Men (as well as some other series), I just HAD to see the new movie. Mind you, I never really expected much because the other movies were pretty weak (they raped Bobby/Iceman, one of my favorites). However, I knew I WOULD be seeing it for the sheer fact that I'm a Hugh Jackman fan. Add the temptation of Gambit, my favorite character ever, and I was totally in. I was already worried though, just from watching trailers I noticed that Taylor Kisch (the kid who was to bring my beloved Remy to life) lacked red eyes and black sclera. Now call me picky, but that's kind of a big point to Gambit's character, ne? Not that this kid looked like him anyway. But quite frankly if you were going to cast someone, might as well get them willing to wear contacts (they totes make Gambit ones, I've seen it before) or just CG THEM IN OR SOME SHIT.

Either way, movie day came and I went. I found that I wasn't as horrified as I had planned on being. I really came out of the theater entertained, but not for the reasons I should have been. The script was cliche and predictable. I was quoting the actors way before they said anything. The action scenes were soooo over the top and just drawn out. That and Logan's claws SO looked like they were ripped from someone's poser video on youtube (not that artists on da and youtube who use Poser aren't talented, the attack is at the movie company which has multimillion dollar special effects and programs). Casting was super strong in some points (Wade, Sabertooth, etc), but super weak in others. Characters were raped, and bad writing is mainly to blame.

It sounds like a total attack, but I promise it's nothing but that. Honest to god, even with all the pitfalls it was super hysterical. I laughed and laughed and laughed. Hugh Jackman is a talented actor, please don't get me wrong, but there are only so many times he can scream with his hands raised and make it believeable. I mean after like the 3rd, the charm was starting to wear off. Not to mention that kid (absolutely adorible and talented) at the beginning just kinda set me into giggles whenever the screaming + claw extension thing happened. God and did they NOT cast Scott well? Cyclops is a good character, but kind of always has been a douchey little brown noser, y'know? I mean it's not to say that he's not a good guy, but way too uptight. That kid who played young Scott was SPOT ON! Not only did he have this really nice angular face that just exuded "comic book character" but those little whines and whimpers he made when Sabertooth found him just had me DYING. The kid was good, and I'm thankful for that. Oh and about the dialogue, "I'm so cold Logan..." I mean c'mon... that's just asking for giggles. Oh and on the subject of WTF what was up with Emma's skin? Emma frost is supposed to be a sexy (annoying/obnoxious/kinda kinky/slutty...)telepath with diamond skin. That doesn't mean to make her miss bling bling, diamonds are a girl's best friend. Did we really need a million diamonds!encrusted skin that looked ripped from a bad Britney Spears video? (I blame the company for this, not the actors).

Needless to say, as obnoxious as my bitches and moans sound you should REALLY see the movie. It is FUNNY, funny funny. I had a long, awful day at work before seeing it. I can honestly say that afterwards I was still laughing and feeling super regenerated. Go see X-Men Origins, please. I think you'll find something good about it (hey you might even just like it as a movie, which is sooo ok! I'm not bashing it or setting out to say anyone who likes it is stupid). I just wanted to give an "as a reader of the comics/aware of the history (I may have read the newer comics, but I'm thoroughly read in the history of x-men).

:D Hope my little review helped out. I think we all need a little laugh in our lives~
